Ludacris endorses Lumumba for mayor of Jackson

If anyone was doubting Chokwe Lumumba’s street cred at this point, just stop.

Ludacris just endorsed the dude for mayor.

In a video posted to Lumumba’s Facebook page, the rapper/actor/bow-throwing enthusiast asked Jacksonians — particularly young Jacksonians — to get out the vote for Ward 2 Jackson City Councilman Lumumba.

“We’ve got to move forward in Jackson, Miss.,” said Christopher Brian Bridges, who goes by the stage name Ludacris. “So the only way to do that is if you vote for my man, aight?”

Ludacris doesn’t have any particular ties to Jackson that we’re aware of. He was born in Illinois before moving to Georgia at a young age. His career took off in the early 2000s, when he was part of a surge of ‘Dirty South’ rappers.

Lumumba, an attorney and civil rights activist, has proudly mentioned his ties to rappers throughout the campaign to appeal to voters. In the mid-1990s, he represented the late rapper Tupac Shakur as a defense attorney.

I guess what we’re saying is if “back seat, windows up” is the way you like to uh… vote… then: “Let’s get progressive, let’s evolve, let’s keep it going,” Ludacris said. “Chokwe Lumumba for mayor. Peace.”
